Brendan Angelides releases new single “I’m Afraid Of Americans” (feat. Serj Tankian)

This year, Serj Tankian, the singer of the multi-platinum Armenian-American nu metal group System of A Down, returns with another joint song, as per theprp. This time, he’s collaborating with electronic musician/composer Brendan Angelides on a rendition of David Bowie‘s 1995 song “I’m Afraid Of Americans.” Metalheads may recognise the song because Trent Reznor, the mastermind of Nine Inch Nails, would subsequently appear on a remixed version of it. After obtaining the opportunity to collaborate with Tankian and covering this timely song once more, Angelides had the following to say.

I always loved Trent Reznor‘s remix of Bowie‘s original. I’ve been working on a new album for the past year and as this particular beat came together, I unexpectedly started singing those words on top. The first person I thought to collab with was Serj Tankian. Serj has been an inspiration to me forever and I’m now lucky to call him a friend. The video is built from our childhood photos. We filmed ourselves to drive the motion capture, then face-tracked, composited, and had a mosh party.

It’s the next single for my upcoming album “Can You Feel The End Begin?“. I keep thinking about what happens to creative communities during authoritarian times. It’s half of what this upcoming album is about. Can’t wait to share it with you in a couple of weeks. Out on Aug 14th.

American electronic music producer and musician Brendan Angelides was previously known by his stage names Eskmo and Welder. The record companies Interscope, Ninja Tune, Planet Mu, and Warp Records have all released his songs. Angelides has written music for films, TV shows, and video games. His score for Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage earned him a BAFTA Award nomination in 2024. The full seven seasons of Showtime’s Billions, Showtime’s Superpumped, Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why, and Netflix’s Echoes are among the television shows. Angelides most recently collaborated with members of the Echo Society to compose the soundtrack for Darren Aronofsky’s Postcard From Earth, which is currently playing for two years at the Las Vegas Sphere.
