Author Daniel Agapito - 25.3.2024

The literary work is part of a trilogy of books; material covers the first three albums released by the group, in the 1990s.

Some very special news was shared by Angra on its social networks. The Federal University of Paraná is launching a series of three books about the written and literary part of Angra’s first three albums, dissecting the song lyrics and writing style. The name of the book in question is O Peso do Metal – Por uma Tempestade Barroca (in english, The Weight of Metal – For a Baroque Storm), by Victor André Pinheiro Cantuário.

For more information, see the band’s instagram post.

“Throughout the 1990s, Brazilian power metal band Angra released the epic albums “Angels Cry” (1993), “Holy Land” (1996) and “Fireworks” (1998). The first album is considered by specialized critics as the maestro’s greatest work of maestro and vocalist Andre Matos (died in 2019), being a milestone in the history of national heavy metal”, says the official announcement of the book.

“The musical and technical quality of these works is unquestionable. What this book proposes is a detailed examination of their literary characteristics, which extract the creative energy of the compositions in their lyrical and aesthetic aspects from the Baroque artistic movement. This work constitutes, therefore, a rich and widespread source of scientific information about the history of almost half a century of heavy music, carefully thought out with the author’s ear, philosophy and literature”.

Angra continues on a world tour promoting their latest album, “Cycles of Pain”. The busy schedule includes numerous performances in Brazil, and, in addition, there are special shows scheduled at the ProgPower USA and Summer Breeze Brasil festivals. The group recently completed a tour of Europe.

Angra‘s tenth studio album, “Cycles of Pain”, has been acclaimed by audiences and critics as one of the greatest moments in the group’s more than three-decade career. The work features special appearances by renowned artists such as Amanda Somerville, Lenine (brazilian pop music veteran), Vanessa Moreno and Juliana D’Agostini, and was produced, mixed and mastered by Dennis Ward (who worked on the classics “Rebirth” and “Temple of Shadows”).

Acclaimed since the 1990s as one of the biggest names in Brazilian metal with a global reach, Angra, managed nationally by Top Link Music, currently includes guitarists Rafael Bittencourt and Marcelo Barbosa, bassist Felipe Andreoli, vocalist Fabio Lione and drummer Bruno Valverde.
