Angra turned their appearance at Full Metal Japan 2026 into a meeting of Brazilian and Japanese heavy metal history. During the band’s October 25 set at Pia Arena MM in Yokohama, former Angra guitarist Kiko Loureiro and former vocalist Edu Falaschi joined the performance, which also featured Akira Takasaki of Loudness for a cover of Deep Purple‘s “Burn“.

Falaschi and Loureiro had already been advertised as special participants in Angra‘s one-off Japanese reunion appearance. Takasaki’s addition brought a local metal icon into the picture and gave the Deep Purple classic an especially high-profile lineup.

The festival’s official programme confirmed the special Angra reunion configuration ahead of the event. A release distributed by the band’s representatives after the show also identified Takasaki’s guest appearance and detailed the set.

A set spanning Angra’s different eras

The October 25 concert drew on multiple periods of Angra‘s catalogue, including “Nothing To Say“, “Carolina IV“, “Nova Era“, “Heroes Of Sand and Rebirth“. The group also performed Queen‘s “Teo Torriatte” and Kate Bush‘s “Wuthering Heights“, before ending with “Carry On“.

The appearance followed the band’s earlier reunion at Brazil’s Bangers Open Air in April 2026. It also offered Japanese fans an opportunity to see musicians associated with the celebrated “Rebirth” and “Temple Of Shadows” eras together again.

Angra have separately been announced for the Power & Steel Festival in Helsinki in November 2027.

Former Viper singer Andre Matos, guitarists Rafael Bittencourt and André Linhares, and music entrepreneur Antônio “Toninho” Pirani founded Angra in November 1991. Bassist André Lichewitz, who was soon replaced by Luis Mariutti, and drummer Marco Antunes, a longtime bandmate of Bittencourt’s, joined the trio. In the early days of the band, Bittencourt and Matos were the main songwriters. Linhares departed the band early in 1992, and André Hernandes took his position. Hernandes left the band the same year, and Kiko Loureiro took his place. “Reaching Horizons”, Angra‘s debut demo recording, was recorded with Loureiro on the lineup and published by the German label Limb Music in 1993.
