Angine de Poitrine‘s unique style and attire have made them stand out during their breakthrough year, yet their relative unknown has worked against them, as per theprp. Exclaim has learned that a fake band is currently performing live in Russia, ostensibly trying to pass themselves off as the original group rather than merely a tribute act. Angine de Poitrine’s art director, Sam Murdock, revealed this fake version to Exclaim.
There’s a fake [version of the] band touring Russia already, with the costumes and everything, and they keep tagging the band and they don’t even say it’s not a real band. And they just have a one-neck guitar.
There are undoubtedly some clear red flags in this pirated version of Angine de Poitrine, one of which is touring Russia, based on the film below. Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and the ongoing conflict in the region, few Western musicians have performed there.
Beyond that, this duo’s authenticity is diminished by the absence of a double-necked guitar, a mediocre stage presentation, and a clearly inferior level of musicianship. A bogus version of the band reportedly performed at least once in Moscow, though it’s unknown if they’ve been performing elsewhere. In the meantime, the genuine Angine de Poitrine is still touring widely this year following the release of their most recent album, “Vol. II,” in April. Fans in North America can see them all around the continent in the summer and autumn. Fans in the UK and Europe are equally fortunate because the group has plans there as well.
