Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) wins over Canadian fans with pointed jibes at Trump’s lake order

Singer Bruce Dickinson made a point of referring to Lake Ontario by that name at Iron Maiden‘s August 29 concert in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, even after U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order mandating that it be renamed Lake America, as per Blabbermouth. Bruce spoke to the crowd at Scotiabank Arena during the opening performance of Maiden’s 2026 North American leg of the “Run For Your Lives” tour in a little video clip released by SiriusXM Canada.

Hello, Canada. Oh my God. It’s been traumatic. We got here. We crossed the Lake Of Ontario.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stated earlier this week that Lake Ontario, which borders both the U.S. state of New York and the Canadian province of Ontario. will still be referred to by that name in spite of Trump’s executive order.

The name is more than 400 years old, pre-dating both the Confederation Of Canada and the Declaration Of Independence of the United States of America. We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms. Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario — then, now and always.
