Alexi Laiho of Children of Bodom was almost a member of a horror punk band

Joey Jordison, the late drummer for Slipknot, had a number of bands, one of which nearly featured Alexi Laiho, the frontman and shredder for Children of Bodom. The band for which it was meant did exist for a few albums, even if the collaboration with Laiho never materialised. Laiho was reportedly on the verge of joining the Murderdolls at one time in their history, according to Wednesday 13. The singer revealed the information as a teaser for an upcoming Guitar World interview that was leaked online.

At the beginning stages of the second album, Alexi Laiho from Children of Bodom was going to be the new guitarist in the band. It would have been Joey, me, and Alexi. Damn, that guy could shred. That was almost a thing. Can you imagine what that would have sounded like?

Wednesday 13 provided insight into why the collaboration was considered, but he did not disclose why it never came to reality. They both “wanted to shred,” but neither he nor Joey were naturally shredders, according to Wednesday 13. “Joey wanted to be as crazy on guitar as he was on drums,” he added. However, if Alexi had joined before the second album, that alternative would have been possible. It should be mentioned that a schedule conflict may have influenced the choice because Laiho and Children of Bodom‘s seventh studio album, “Relentless Reckless Forever”, was released in March 2011, only a few months after Murderdolls‘ “Women and Children Last” was released in late August 2010. April 2011 marked the end of the Murderdolls‘ second album tour support. Wednesday 13 stated in an interview in 2013 that the band had broken up permanently; however, by 2017, there were rumors that Jordison and Wednesday 13 might bring their former group back to life. Talks of a reunion came to a standstill. In 2018, Wednesday 13 paid tribute to the late Murderdolls drummer Ben “The Ghoul” Graves by performing with previous members Acey Slade and Eric Griffin. When Jordison passed away in 2021 at the age of 46, the band experienced yet another loss. At the age of 41, Alexi Laiho passed away on December 29, 2020, while still playing with Children of Bodom.
