A number of musicians, including Creed, Black Keys, John Mellencamp, and Sebastian Bach, have postponed performances in the United States due to the current wave of wildfires in Canada, as per Loudwire. Smoke from over 800 fires north of the U.S. border has caused health alerts to be issued in several American areas. Chicago, Grand Rapids, Pittsburgh, and Toledo, Ohio, have all issued hazard warnings due to the 30 new flames that have been discovered in the last 24 hours, and residents of New York have also been told to stay inside. Creed was scheduled to play in Shakopee, Minnesota. but changed the date to September 5, stating that the decision was made “given the environmental conditions and the challenges they create for the band, crew, venue, staff, and attendees.“
Bach had to postpone his performance at Wisconsin’s Waukesha County Expo Center on Thursday night.
This really stinks! We were super stoked to play tonight but due to the hazardous air quality index level of 644 in the interest of the safety of our fans, crew and ourselves we unfortunately will not be able to perform an outside show for 90 minutes in these conditions. We don’t want anybody to jeopardize their health in any way. We are looking into rescheduling the show and coming back to rock with you Waukesha!
We gotta get a handle on the weather on this planet before it’s too late
“On advisement from the city… and for the safety of our fans,” the Black Keys cancelled their scheduled outdoor performance in Chicago. Two indoor performances on October 20 and 21 have taken the place of the original event.
Mellencamp‘s concert in Clarkston, Michigan was cancelled, and ticket holders received information about their refunds. He affirmed that “poor air quality” was the reason for the decision.
Six Canadian municipalities have been evacuated as a result of the wildfire situation, and several areas have implemented preventive measures. The air quality is expected to improve starting on Monday, July 20, but authorities predict that the hot weather and limited rainfall mean conditions may worsen until the weekend.
We’re in a very serious health situation right now [and it’s] very unhealthy to be outdoors. – Kathy Hochul, New York Governor
