Aerosmith were joined by legendary hip-hop group Run-DMC for a special performance of “Walk This Way” during the second of their two California, Dream On: Aerosmith & Friends concerts at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on November 1.
The collaboration recreated one of rock and hip-hop’s most influential musical partnerships, 40 years after Aerosmith and Run-DMC joined forces for their groundbreaking 1986 version of the song.
The performance also featured the return of original Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer, who joined the band behind the drum kit alongside John Douglas.
Kramer had previously reunited with his bandmates during the first Hollywood Bowl concert on October 29, marking his first performance with Aerosmith since February 2020.
The November 1 concert featured a star-studded lineup of guest musicians paying tribute to Aerosmith’s extensive catalogue.
Among the performers were Guns N’ Roses, The Black Crowes, Heart, Billy Idol, Jerry Cantrell, Tom Morello, Lzzy Hale, Marcus King, Grace Potter and Pat Monahan.
Setlist:
Originally released on Aerosmith’s 1975 album “Toys In The Attic”, “Walk This Way” gained a new audience when Run-DMC recorded their version with Tyler and Perry in 1986.
The collaboration became a defining moment in the development of rap-rock and helped introduce Aerosmith to a younger generation of listeners. The Hollywood Bowl reunion brought the two groups together again for a performance celebrating that musical legacy.
The two special concerts also marked Aerosmith’s return to full-band performances after the group announced its retirement from touring in August 2024. That decision followed Tyler’s serious vocal injury during the band’s Peace Out farewell tour in September 2023.
Fan-filmed footage of the November 1 performance of “Walk This Way” is available now.
