Tom Morello calls US midterm results a rejection of Trumpism, urges continued activism

Author Benedetta Baldin - 6.11.2026

Tom Morello has responded to the 2026 United States midterm elections with a strongly worded video message, describing the results as a rejection of President Donald Trump’s political agenda while urging supporters not to regard an electoral victory as the end of their work.

The Rage Against The Machine guitarist shared his reaction on social media following the November 3 vote, which saw Democrats gain control of both chambers of Congress. Morello, a longtime political activist, characterized the outcome as a rebuke of policies and institutions he has repeatedly criticized.

Tom Morello says the election was only the beginning

“Last night’s election results were only the start,” Morello said in the video. He went on to describe the vote as a repudiation of oligarchy, racism, immigration enforcement practices and US involvement in overseas conflicts.

Morello also used particularly harsh language about the president’s supporters, calling the result “a repudiation of all of Trump’s wannabe Nazi bitches.” He said he welcomed what he viewed as a rejection of Trumpism but warned that political participation cannot end at the ballot box.

“But the real work starts now,” the guitarist continued, encouraging people to remain active in their communities, workplaces and schools and to keep pushing for what he described as a more peaceful and equitable society.

A long history of political activism

Morello’s comments are consistent with his decades of political engagement, both through his music and through public activism. The guitarist has taken part in demonstrations and benefit concerts, and political themes have been central to his work with Rage Against The Machine.

Although he praised the election outcome, Morello’s message should not be taken as an unqualified endorsement of the Democratic Party. In a previous Rolling Stone interview, he said he had not voted for Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, without identifying whom he had supported instead.

The musician has also spoken out against the idea that artists should avoid politics, arguing that musicians have a right to express views about the issues affecting their audiences.

Morello continues solo career

Outside his political activity, Tom Morello has continued releasing solo music. His latest album, “Everyone Gets Everything They Want”, arrived in 2026 and includes contributions from his son Roman Morello.

The new statement reinforces Morello’s view that elections can create opportunities for change, but that organizing and public pressure remain necessary beyond the voting process.
