Adam Dutkiewicz already has material for a second Burn Eternal album

Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz says he has already written enough material for a second album by Burn Eternal, his revived creative partnership with former Killswitch Engage singer Howard Jones.

More music already written

The project is preparing to release its self-titled debut album on February 26, 2027 through Metal Blade Records, but Dutkiewicz revealed in a new Metal On Tap interview that he has more music ready for Jones to develop.

It’s old news to me [at this point]. This record’s been done for, like, four years. There was a lot of hang-ups with this one. But I’m glad it’s finally coming out. I’ve already got enough material for another record, too. So Howard’s got the material. When he writes the lyrics, we’ll start working on it together.

Who wrote the lyrics and the melodies?

We were collaborative a little bit on some of the parts. But, yeah, it’s mostly Howard. He would do demos on his own with a friend of his over in Connecticut. And then some of the demos he gave me were great, and we just flew with it and didn’t have to do anything. But the producer in me, if something doesn’t feel right in some spots, like, ‘Hey, let’s think about maybe trying to rewrite this section,’ or, ‘This chorus could feel stronger here. Let’s, like, rewrite this part,’ blah, blah. But, yeah, for the most part it’s, it’s Howard, yeah.

He shared more about the songwriting process.

I wrote all those songs during the pandemic. So think about how long ago that was. I did it out of just trying to keep myself sane. I’m sure we were all going through crazy shit during all that. And one day I was just hanging out with Howard — maybe we bumped into him on a tour or something — and he just brought up, like, ‘Hey, you got any songs for me to sing over?’ And I’m, like, ‘You want me to give you songs?’ I’m, like, ‘Sure, that sounds like fun.’ And then I gave him all the songs I had lying around, and here we are.

Dutkiewicz expressed his profound regret regarding the prolonged anticipation experienced by fans awaiting their initial exposure to the music of Burn Eternal.

I’ve been wanting to share the project with people for years, and there’s been all these hang-ups. So it’s almost a bit bitter for me. But I’m glad it’s coming out, and I’m glad I’m still working on material with Howard, ’cause I just love working with Howard. Howard’s such a great friend. Making music with your friends is a good time.
