Killswitch Engage welcomed a special guest during their November 6 concert in Sydney, Australia, when Jem Siow of Australian hardcore band SPEED joined them for “My Last Serenade”.

A special Sydney guest appearance

The collaboration brought together one of metalcore’s most established acts and a prominent figure from Australia’s contemporary hardcore scene. Siow contributed guest vocals during the song, and fan-filmed footage of the performance has since appeared online.

“My Last Serenade” originally appeared on Killswitch Engage‘s 2002 album “Alive Or Just Breathing” and remains one of the group’s signature songs.

SPEED have gained international recognition through their energetic performances and their connection to the Australian hardcore community, making the appearance a natural crossover for local fans.

Killswitch Engage are touring Australia with Sylosis. Remaining dates on the run include Melbourne on November 10, Adelaide on November 12 and Perth on November 14.

The guest spot was a one-night live collaboration; neither band has announced a studio recording involving Siow and Killswitch Engage.

Killswitch Engage is an American metalcore ensemble originating from Westfield, Massachusetts, established in 1999. The current configuration of the band includes vocalist Jesse Leach, guitarists Joel Stroetzel and Adam Dutkiewicz, bassist Mike D’Antonio, and drummer Justin Foley.

Howard Jones served as the lead vocalist from 2002 until 2012. Leach, the founding vocalist, departed after the release of two albums, subsequently leading to Jones’s recruitment, which facilitated the band’s ascent to prominence with their 2004 album, “The End of Heartache”.

This album achieved a peak position of 21 on the Billboard 200 and received gold certification from the RIAA for exceeding 500,000 shipments in the United States. The title track garnered a nomination for a Grammy Award in 2005 in the category of Best Metal Performance.

The band’s fourth studio album, “As Daylight Dies”, achieved platinum certification in the United States and produced the platinum-selling single “My Curse.” In 2014, Killswitch Engage was recognized as the preeminent metalcore band of all time by both OC Weekly and Ultimate Guitar.
