Virtuoso guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen has announced his upcoming studio album, “Hell Or High Water”, set for release on November 13 via Music Theories Recordings/Artone Label Group, as per Blabbermouth. Ahead of the launch, the Swedish guitar icon has unveiled the official music video for the record’s second single, “Beyond Zeta Reticuli.” Widely celebrated among the pantheon of instrumental innovators alongside the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, and Eddie Van Halen, Malmsteen crafted the album’s nine tracks through an isolated, highly focused songwriting process. Building on the meticulous creative approach he first adopted during the recording of 2021’s “Parabellum”, Malmsteen has adopted this distraction-free methodology as his permanent standard for writing and recording.
Inspired by my fascination with alien life, this instrumental combines big, heavy themes, strong melodies and intricate counterpoint — pure neoclassical fire.
All these years on, Yngwie J. Malmsteen looks and sounds more determined than ever. If the music feels good to him, that’s enough – anyone else liking it is a bonus. And this is precisely the creative fortitude and single-mindedness that turned him into a household name among the guitar community. There is no such thing as half measures or compromise in his world. Here is an artist who will be forever bound to authenticity and creative honesty.
When I started making records, I would just take the songs I had lying around, later on, I fell into a schedule — make a record, tour the record and then write the next record. Over the pandemic, I realised it was better to focus completely uninterrupted, so I stayed at home to write this album over the course of eight months. I had around 80 or 90 tracks finished, and then I had to decide which ones were the strongest.
