Upcoming shows:
American progressive rock group The Mars Volta was founded in 2001. Omar Rodríguez-López (guitar, producer, directing) and Cedric Bixler-Zavala (vocals, lyrics) are the only consistent members of the band, and their collaboration serves as its foundation. In addition, Omar’s brother Marcel Rodríguez-López (keyboards, synths, percussion), Leo Genovese (piano, keyboard, saxophone), Linda-Philomène Tsoungui (drums), and original member Eva Gardner (bass) are currently on the lineup. After Rodríguez-López and Bixler-Zavala’s former band, At the Drive-In, broke up, The Mars Volta—known for their upbeat live performances and concept albums—was founded. The Mars Volta was formed by Rodríguez-López and Bixler-Zavala with the help of Gardner, Isaiah “Ikey” Owens (keyboards), Jon Theodore (drums), and Jeremy Ward (sound manipulation) in an effort to experiment and broaden their sound.
