Following the recent announcement of the dates for their upcoming fall tour in North America, The Mars Volta have officially unveiled the next phase of their enigmatic interactive campaign: a brand-new live album titled “Lucro Sucio; Unfinished Business.”
The first single from the album, titled “Cue The Sun / Alba del Orate,” is now available on all streaming platforms.
The project marks a milestone for the band, representing their first official live release since 2005’s “Scabdates.” Far from being a simple live recording of their latest studio album, “Lucro Sucio; Los Ojos del Vacío” is a profound reinterpretation of the original material with an added twist: the band’s invitation to fans to participate directly in the album’s creation process by offering them access to live recordings made during their 2025 tour.
The initiative originally began with a mysterious countdown hosted on a dedicated website. At the end of the countdown, on June 9, the band unveiled an interactive digital experience that includes audio previews from various live recordings and a voting system allowing fans to choose which specific performances to include in the final version of the album. In classic The Mars Volta style, each track is represented by a visual symbol linked to the city where it was recorded—an approach that reflects the band’s ongoing commitment to adopting unconventional and engaging release strategies, while expanding the creative universe surrounding *Lucro Sucio; Los Ojos del Vacío*.
This upcoming live album documents exactly how the new material has evolved on stage, highlighting the band’s renowned live intensity, its spirit of improvisation, and its increasingly varied approach to live performance. “Lucro Sucio; Unfinished Business” will be available in three different formats, allowing collectors of physical media to choose between a special-edition CD Digipak or a limited-edition double vinyl (2LP) box set, set for release on October 16, 2026, in addition to its launch on all major streaming platforms as a digital album (also in Dolby Atmos) on September 4.
