Wacken Open Air 2023: No more visitors allowed until the end of the festival

Author Stefanie Nysand - 2.8.2023

Yesterday, the festival Wacken Open Air 2023, which officially starts today in the village of the same name in Northern Germany, asked those visitors who are not yet at the festival site to postpone their arrival. The reason for the request is extreme rain. Later that day, “all metalheads in all kinds of motor vehicles” were asked to stop their journey to Wacken or to not start their journey to Wacken in the first place. Now, all visitors who are not yet at the festival site are asked to refrain from visiting this year’s edition of Wacken Open Air altogether:

“Due to the weather, the acceptable number of visitors for Wacken Open Air 2023 has been reached.”

Further information can be found in the Q&A on the festival’s website.

Places like the one parking lot at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg, which visitors with motor vehicles could temporarily use, are no longer available to new arrivals. Travelling by public transportation to Wacken is also no longer possible, as shuttle buses and the like are already bursting at the seams.
