Maya Pobst (Burial Path) has been confirmed as the new vocalist for Vulvodynia, a brutal death metal band from South Africa that got their name from a vaginal irritation, as per theprp. Her participation in the ensemble comes after this past spring’s open tryouts. To date, the group has struggled with vocalists; they sacked Duncan Bentley in 2023 after a violent incident with a bandmate, and they expelled Zion Bittenbender this past spring due to accusations.

The South African deathcore group Vulvodynia was founded in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, in 2014. The current lineup of the band is drummer Thomas Hughes, bassist Nate Gilbert, and guitarists Lwandile Prusent, Luke Haarhoff, and Kris Xenopoulos. “Entabeni”, the band’s most recent studio album, was released on July 5, 2024, by Unique Leader Records. Additionally, three EPs and three split EPs have been issued by them. Unique Leader Records currently has a contract with them.
Luke Haarhoff, 16, and Duncan Bentley, 19, founded Vulvodynia in the beginning of 2014. In May 2014, the band released their first EP, “Lord of Plagues”. Byron Dunwoody, who produced the EP, would soon become the band’s second guitarist. The band signed with the Australian label Vicious Instinct Records in August 2014, and in October of that same year, they released their debut album, “Cognisant Castigation”. “Slashing Through the Snow”, the band’s split EP with Cunt Cuntly, Before the Harvest, Cerebus, Bationmaster, and The Cake Is a Lie, was released in December 2014. The band assembled a full lineup to start travelling in 2015.
