On June 3rd, in Prague, Czech Republic, Mastodon made their live debut with their recently released single, “Your Ghost Again”, as per theprp. This past Monday, June 1st, the progressive sludge metal group released the song online, partially as a memorial to their late guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds. The group’s upcoming ninth studio album, which will be their first without Hinds, is anticipated to be preceded by this new song. After a tense breakup with Mastodon a few months earlier, Hinds tragically died in a motorbike accident in August 2025. Bassist/vocalist Troy Sanders informed the crowd before performing this song for the first time.
This is the first song in our entire career that wasn’t worked on with our friend Brent — he passed away last year, and he is no longer with us. So we’d like to do a new song for you guys and we’d like to dedicate it to Brent because we miss him and we love him also.

Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, Mastodon is an American heavy metal ensemble that came into being in the year 2000. For a remarkable span of 24 years, the band’s core members — Troy Sanders on bass and vocals, Brent Hinds on lead guitar and vocals, Bill Kelliher on rhythm guitar and backing vocals, and Brann Dailor on drums and vocals — maintained their consistent lineup until Hinds’s departure in March 2025.
