U2 have released their new single “The Greatest Show On Earth”, accompanied by a music video directed by longtime collaborator Anton Corbijn. The song is taken from the band’s forthcoming 16th studio album, “Carnaval De Luz”, due November 13.
The new video was filmed in the Californian desert and presents the Irish rock veterans in a satirical scenario involving the imagery of a religious cult. The track was co-written by the band and Brian Eno, and explores a relationship in which two people struggle to maintain their faith in one another.
“Carnaval De Luz” marks the band’s first studio album of new material in nine years. Produced by Jacknife Lee, its 12 songs explore spirituality, friendship, freedom and endurance, while drawing on some of U2‘s more experimental musical approaches.
Alongside the release, U2 announced their return to stadium touring in 2027. The Greatest Show On Earth World Tour will open in Mexico City on February 23, with further dates in São Paulo and Buenos Aires. Beck will join the band as support, while European and North American dates are expected to be announced later.
The release arrives during the band’s 50th anniversary year. Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. formed U2 in Dublin in 1976. More information about the album and tour is available on the band’s official website.
