“There’s hardly any rules when it comes to songwriting, I try to surprise myself and let things happen” – interview with Tobias Sammet of Avantasia

We had the chance to chat in detail with Tobias Sammet, the mastermind behind Avantasia, who are releasing their newest album “A Paranormal Evening with the Moonflower Society” on October 21st via Nuclear Blast Records. Amongst other topics, we discussed the contributions of new guests Ralf Scheepers and Floor Jansen, and returning members such a Geoff Tate and Michael Kiske. We also talked about the opportunity to work with some of his main influences, the impact of the pandemic on his vocal performance, his songwriting process and his love for Finland.
