Some stories deserve a final chapter. Let’s write ours together.
Nearly 35 years later, Tobias Sammet, the two guitarists Jens Ludwig and Dirk Sauer, as well as bassist Tobias “Eggi” Exxel and drummer Felix Bohnke, who joined the band 30 years ago, can reflect on their incredibly successful career, which includes performances in over 40 countries, numerous tours in Asia, Australia, and America, ten studio albums, and Top 10 chart entries from all over the world.
In 2017, Edguy released the 2-CD/DVD bundle “Monuments” through Nuclear Blast in honour of their 25th anniversary. Their best songs from the first 25 years, brand-new material, and previously unreleased rarities were all included in the set. The DVD also featured all of the band’s video clips and a full performance from Edguy’s 2004 “Hellfire Club” tour. The last album of fresh original material by Edguy, “Space Police – Defenders Of The Crown,” was released by Nuclear Blast in April 2014. The limited edition featured a comprehensive coffee-table book with content from the band’s whole history.
At the time, “Edguy” was a loving nickname for their maths teacher. The band issued two demos, “Children of Steel” and “Evil Minded”, in 1994. Many record labels received these tapes, but they all turned them down because they thought the band wouldn’t succeed in the music industry. Unfazed, they self-released “Savage Poetry”, their “unofficial” debut album, in 1995. They soon signed with AFM Records, which promised to re-release “Savage Poetry” with wider distribution.
