There can be only one Demon Hunter – here’s who the band is suing

Author Benedetta Baldin - 19.8.2026

Demon Hunter, an established Christian metal band, has sued Netflix, Netflix Studios, and AEG Presents, alleging unfair competition, fraudulent designation of origin, and trademark infringement, as per theprp. The allegations include Netflix’s popular cartoon series “KPop Demon Hunters” from 2025, which has generated a number of trademark applications for merchandise and other items related to the show’s transition into live events and other areas. The band filed the complaint in a Californian court today, August 18, through their Hyde Lane running organization, which Complex was able to secure a copy of. Complex reports that the band has mentioned instances of brand misunderstanding pertaining to both the band and the series.

In one instance, a fan of the program bought $500 worth of tickets for a Demon Hunter concert in Albany, New York, for themselves and their five and six-year-old daughters, thinking they were going to a “KPop Demon Hunters” performance. After realising their error, the fan requested a refund. Since their formation in 2000, Demon Hunter has been a successful band with twelve studio albums and numerous tours under their belt. The group is requesting a jury trial on this matter, claiming that continued overlap between the two organisations in the same industries could result in significant consumer misunderstanding and incorrect linkages between the band and the animated series.

In relation to the trademark, the group is requesting the restoration of their “rightful interests.” They also want compensation and triple damages, and they want Netflix to be prohibited from using the name “KPop Demon Hunters.”
