The synergy between Eivør and Sylvaine created a night that was a perfect blend of mysticism and musical brilliance at the sold-out Manchester Academy 2.
Sylvaine took the stage with a spiritually-charged atmosphere. With the exception of not having a band, it was the first time to witness her unique blend of ambient black metal and introspective compositions in the bare air that set the tone for the evening. The ethereal Norwegian opener complemented the anticipated folk soundscapes and enhanced the spiritual essence of the performance, drawing listeners into a realm that felt both haunting and serene.
The Faroses siren Eivør stepped into the limelight and like clockwork, commanded her sight with her exceptional vocal range and profound connection to the folk tradition. The masterful combination of new material and beloved favourites revealed her artistic evolution while honouring her roots. The new trio of ‘Jarðartrá,’ ‘Hugsi Bert Um Teg,’ and ‘Purpurhjarta‘ offered a tantalising glimpse into her latest opus, ENN, that were stories woven with emotion, reflecting the landscapes of her homeland and the depths of the human experience. Interspersed with fan favourites such as ‘Salt,’ ‘Trøllabundin,’ and ‘Í Tokuni,’ this was a ride of contrasting dynamics. The elegant encore of ‘Gullspunnin’ and ‘Falling Free’ left an everlasting impression, as the transitions between intimate moments and explosive crescendos captivated the sold-out Manchester Academy 2.
From the atmospheric opening by Sylvaine to the powerful closing notes of Eivør, every moment was steeped in artistry and authenticity. This sold-out show not only highlighted Eivør’s mastery of her ancient, yet modern craft but also designed an unforgettable experience that lingered long after the final applause.
