Eivør releases new single “UPP ÚR ØSKUNI / RISE FROM THE ASHES”

Author Lucia Bellapianta - 6.6.2024

Eivør released her new single, which will be featured on her new album “ENN”, coming out on June 14th. This song is the third song of this album that is released, after “HUGSI BERT UM TEG / STILL JUST YOU” and “JARÐARTRÁ / DUST TO DUST”.

“ENN”, which means “still” in English, is Eivørs first album with the metal label Season of Mist. On this album Eivør seems to lean more into electronic beats and orchestral melodies. It’s an appreciation to her Nordic roots. The singer is originally from Syðrugøta in the Faroe Islands, where she grew up surrounded by the beautiful nature and culture of this Nordic islands.

The feeling of these surroundings come through her songs, especially in her latest single “UPP ÚR ØSKUNI / RISE FROM THE ASHES”. Also the music video for it was shot in the Faroe Islands.

This song is definitely heavier than the other two songs from this album that have already been released. It starts out with the dense sounds of drums and a very dark melodic feeling. This darkness surrounds all her vocals throughout the song, which are very light and in a sense angelic. In some moments of the song though, her growls take the scene and she sings “Sing to the darkness”. The video shows exactly what the sounds of this song transmits – a grey haze taking in the singer, dancing around and women rising from the darkness.

“When I was writing “UPP ÚR ØSKUNI / RISE FROM THE ASHES“, I imagined a coven of witches, past and present, chanting to each other across the chasms of time. That mental image will forever be seared into our cultural memory by the song’s positively bewitching video, which was created by a wickedly talented team of women. […] I wanted to complement the earthy vibes of “ENN” with something raw, that was coursing with untamed feminine energy.” Eivør

With “UPP ÚR ØSKUNI / RISE FROM THE ASHESEivør celebrates all the strong women in her life.

“I’ve never written a girl power song. I guess it was about time.” Eivør

Eivør will tour with Sylvaine in Europe this year and with Heilung in Australia and New Zealand.
