With intentions to return in 2027, the emo-focused “When We Were Young” festival will skip 2026, as per theprp. The event, which has been held every fall in Las Vegas, Nevada since 2022, is taking a break for the first time since moving to the Silver State. The organizers released the following statement on February 27th.
To our When We Were Young family,
The songs, the memories, the moments – none of it exists without you. After an unforgettable run in Las Vegas, we’ve decided to take 2026 off to give this festival the care it deserves and to make sure what comes next feels just as special as what came before.
When We Were Young festival will return to Las Vegas in October 2027.
Thank you for showing up with your whole hearts every year. This isn’t goodbye – it’s just a pause.
We’ll see you in 2027.
The festival’s inaugural iteration was held on April 8 and 9, 2017, at The Observatory in Santa Ana, California. Morrissey was the main attraction. The event was relocated to the Las Vegas Festival Grounds in Winchester, Nevada in 2022. My Chemical Romance and Paramore will headline the one-day concert on October 22, 2022, which was first announced on January 18, 2022. Due to the rapid ticket sales, October 23 and 29, 2022, were added as the second and third dates. Alkaline Trio‘s Matt Skiba claims that all bands agreed to perform even though the festival roster was revealed before musicians were officially committed. The weather forced the cancellation of the first day.
The weather forced the cancellation of the first day. Due to health concerns, the band Car Seat Headrest withdrew from their 2022 performance itinerary. With Blink-182 and Green Day as the main acts, the festival said on October 11, 2022, that it will be returning for a second year in 2023. Additionally, the festival changed its concept from a three-day event to a two-day weekend celebration, which was also the case for the 2024 event.
