Spiritual Front is an act from Rome. The style described as “nihilist suicide pop”, although elements of neoclassical and rock music, melancholic folk, as well as tango are prevalent, along with a recurring experimental feel. From dark, wailing experimental folk in the beginning, the sound began to transform and grow, to where it is now compared to the work of Nick Cave, Swans, and Scott Walker.

Rooted in the core of the acoustic duo composed of Taneli Jarva and Sami Hassinen, T. Jarva & The Dark Place traverses the dimly lit paths between alt-country and folk noir. Formed in Christmas 2018 by Taneli Jarva and Sami Hassinen, the duo first tried their wings by occasionally playing live covers of their heroes such as Townes van ZandtLeonard CohenTom WaitsNick CaveMarianne Faithfull and Mark Lanegan. Their emerging sound relied heavily on Jarva’s dark baritone voice and the interplay between his steel-string rhythm guitar and Sami Hassinen’s nylon-string melodies.

So far, the band has played at doom metal and country music festivals, supported Finnish and foreign artists, and appeared in art galleries, birthday parties, stag parties and even a funeral ceremony. One could therefore deduce that there are very few occasions where The Dark Place would not be an asset – provided that the audience does not expect dancing and pep talks, of course.

The band has recently released two singles, titled “Hades Children” and “Pompeii Dog“. These two tracks are taken from the band’s upcoming second album.
