Sinsaenum release third new single ‘Obsolete and Broken’

Author Benedetta Baldin - 25.7.2025

Extreme metal group Sinsaenum continues their unstoppable resurgence with the release of their explosive third single, ‘Obsolete and Broken‘, taken from their highly anticipated new studio album “In Devastation”, out 8th August via earMUSIC.

Following the raw intensity of ‘In Devastation‘ and the deeply personal ‘Last Goodbye‘, this new track marks a powerful stylistic expansion for the band. Fierce and unrelenting at its core, ‘Obsolete and Broken‘ also surprises with an emotionally charged clean vocal bridge—an unexpected moment of melodic vulnerability, underlined by the unusual presence of a sitar amidst the chaos. This balance of technicality, aggression, and melody defines the band’s new era.

‘Obsolete and Broken’ is one the first songs I wrote for this new album. In my opinion it has all the elements that define our new direction: it is melodic yet aggressive, it has intricate/technical parts, the bridge has clean vocals and guitar, and I’m particularly proud of the solo section which took me quite a while to get right. Lyrically, the song is more sci-fi based, which is also unusual for us. Frédéric Leclercq

With lyrics depicting domination, decay, and a dystopian uprising, ‘Obsolete and Broken’ adds a narrative edge to Sinsaenum’s discography.

This album marks Sinsaenum’s first new material since the tragic passing of legendary drummer Joey Jordison (Slipknot, Murderdolls) in 2021, and the deeply personal loss of guitarist and founder Frédéric Leclercq’s father—two profound events that, alongside the ongoing trials of life, shaped the emotional core and creative evolution of the band’s most powerful work to date.

Joining Leclercq on this latest chapter are Attila Csihar (Mayhem), Sean Zatorsky (Dååth), Stéphane Buriez (Loudblast), and Heimoth (Seth), with Andre Joyzi behind the kit—chosen for both his skills and his connection to the late Joey Jordison, whose legacy remains central to the band’s mission.

Produced and mixed by Lasse Lammert, “In Devastation” is Sinsaenum’s most daring and emotionally charged album to date. It balances brutal riffing with progressive ambition, resulting in an album that’s both technically thrilling and deeply human. Sinsaenum’s journey has been one of grief, transformation, and defiance. With ‘Obsolete and Broken’, the band stakes its claim not just in the world of modern metal—but far beyond it.
