Roy Khan is working on a solo album and it’s going to sound like classic Kamelot

Author Benedetta Baldin - 25.5.2026

Roy Khan, a Norwegian musician, is no stranger to creating heartbreaking symphonic metal, as per MetalInjection. He has really made appearances in the gothic and prog metal scenes over the years, having previously led groups like Kamelot and Conception. Khan then broke up with Kamelot in 2011 following his brief tenure with the former, which ended in 1998. The singer has since informed the media that he is focusing on his solo career. But with very little motion. Up until now. In a recent interview with Under Fire on Saturday, May 23, the singer disclosed that his much awaited solo album might be released in 2027. and says when creating it, he was inspired by Kamelot.

This album will be… I mean, it’s inevitable that it’ll be somewhat a mix of Conception and Kamelot, since I’m part of the songwriting and do all the lyrics and the vocals, of course. But I’m trying to capture the sound that Kamelot had while I was in the band. That’s the idea. But I’m not super conscious about how I do stuff. A good song is a good song. But at the back of my head, that’s what I want. That also comes kind of natural.

In 2024, Khan made an official announcement about his first solo album. The singer has accounts on both YouTube and Spotify, but she hasn’t yet released any songs on either platform. Khan previously told BraveWords that there were a number of reasons why his next record was delayed. Including the period he ultimately spent spending more time getting back together with Conception in 2016. Additionally, everyone’s lives were slowed down by the worldwide pandemic. Fans may be closer than ever to Roy Khan‘s solo album now that nearly six years have passed. He also asserts that “it’s definitely going to be metal.”
