Svensson has also been a member of several different bands throughout the years, such as Allegiance, Devils Whorehouse, and several others.
Morgan Steinmeyer Håkansson, who plays guitar for the group, established Marduk with the aspiration of becomingthe “most blasphemous band in existence. ” In their first two works, the 1991 EP titled “Fuck Me Jesus” and their firstfull-length album “Dark Endless” released the subsequent year, Marduk showcased a black metal sound that was heavilyinspired by death metal. For these initial projects, the band’s members included Morgan, lead vocalist Andreas ‘Dread’ Axelsson, guitarist Magnus ‘Devo’ Andersson, bassist Rikard Kalm, and drummer Joakim ‘Av Gravf’ Göthberg; both albums were mixed by Dan Swanö from Edge of Sanity.
However, the consistency of this group was disrupted after the launch of “Dark Endless” when both Dread and Richard Kalm left the band. After their exit, Av Gravf took on the role of singer, while Roger ‘B. War’ Svensson became the bass guitarist. They went on to record their second album, “Those of the Unlight”, in April 1993, which was mixed by Swanö, as mentioned before. Released on October 1, 1993, “Those of the Unlight” marked a clear shift in the band’smusical style, showing a more melodic black metal sound that moved away from the death metal elements present in Marduk’s earlier music. The band built on this new style with “Opus Nocturne”, which came out on December 12, 1994. This album was notable for adding Fredrik Andersson on drums, while Av Gravf gave up drumming to focus solelyon singing, and Devo left the group.
