Rivers of Nihil drops hypnotic new single “Water & Time” with music video

Rivers of Nihil is back with a fresh track called “Water & Time”, along with a brand-new music video. This single teases their upcoming self-titled album, due out May 30th.

The track started off as a synth experiment by guitarist Brody Uttley. Initially just a demo called “TFF” (a nod to Tears for Fears), the idea evolved into a full-blown metal track once the band added their signature layers.

–‘Water & Time’ is a song that we put together before most of the rest of this album. The working title on it was ‘TFF’ meaning ‘Tears For Fears’ because in a lot of ways I feel like it’s our stab at writing a big chorus style synth laden song much like those kinds of bands. Initially it was a song that I wrote out totally on a synthesizer, just as an experiment really, not thinking it would be a RIVERS song. However, when I heard the main melody back, I knew we were on to something cool, so we filled out the song with ‘metal band stuff’ to get what you hear in the final version.

The lineup shake-up in 2023 seems to be paying off—bassist Adam Biggs is now handling lead vocals, teaming up with new guitarist/vocalist Andy Thomas (ex-Black Crown Initiate) for some seriously powerful dual vocals. As usual, production is in the hands of Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland of Atrium Audio.

Don’t miss the earlier singles “House of Light” and “American Death” while you’re at it. The band recently toured Europe with Cynic, Beyond Creation, and Dååth, and they’ll be hitting North America in May with Holy Fawn, Inter Arma, and Glacial Tomb.
