Rainbow’s ‘Finyl Vinyl’ gets remastered 40th-anniversary reissue on vinyl and CD

Legendary hard rock band Rainbow are celebrating the 40th anniversary of their 1986 live compilation “Finyl Vinyl” with a newly remastered and repackaged edition. The release brings together recordings from the group’s different eras under guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, including performances featuring vocalists Ronnie James Dio, Graham Bonnet and Joe Lynn Turner.

Deko Entertainment is preparing the anniversary set in a limited 180-gram colored double-vinyl edition and a two-CD digipak. The packaging features expanded liner notes by rock journalist Martin Popoff, together with additional recollections from Turner and Bonnet.

Finyl Vinyl receives 40th-anniversary remaster

Originally released in 1986, “Finyl Vinyl” was assembled following the end of Rainbow’s original run and Ritchie Blackmore’s return to Deep Purple. Rather than documenting a single concert, it combines live recordings from several tours with rare studio material, presenting a cross-section of the band’s evolution from the late 1970s through the early 1980s.

The collection includes familiar songs such as “Man on the Silver Mountain”, “Long Live Rock ’n’ Roll”, “Since You Been Gone”, “I Surrender”, “Stone Cold” and “Street of Dreams”. It also features the studio rarity “Jealous Lover”.

The anniversary edition’s 15-track running order includes recordings associated with all three singers and restores the full collection on two discs. Earlier single-CD versions of “Finyl Vinyl” omitted some material because of running-time limitations.

Limited vinyl and special signed bundle

The remastered double-vinyl edition is being produced on 180-gram colored vinyl in gatefold packaging, with reports indicating a worldwide limitation of 1,000 copies. The two-CD edition comes in a six-panel digipak.

Deko Entertainment is also offering a special bundle combining the colored double LP and two-CD set with a 10-by-10-inch print signed by Graham Bonnet. The label’s product page lists the signed bundle as limited to 100 copies, with shipping expected in mid-December 2026.

Retail release dates vary by format and seller: some listings place the two-CD edition on December 18, 2026, while the standalone double LP is listed for January 29, 2027. Fans should confirm availability and shipping dates with their preferred retailer.

A look back at Rainbow’s changing lineup

Formed by Ritchie Blackmore in 1975, Rainbow became one of hard rock’s most influential acts, initially combining heavy riffs and fantasy-inspired songwriting with Ronnie James Dio’s dramatic vocals. Later incarnations with Graham Bonnet and Joe Lynn Turner moved toward a more melodic, radio-friendly sound without abandoning Blackmore’s distinctive guitar work.

The original “Finyl Vinyl” preserved live performances from these contrasting periods and served as a retrospective of the band’s first decade. Four decades later, the remastered edition offers another chance to revisit that history.
