As we reported two days ago, the Swedish dark 80s style synth-pop band Priest, which partly consists of former band members of the Swedish rock heavyweights Ghost, was supposed to kick off their US tour yesterday at the legendary “Whisky A Go Go” in Los Angeles, alongside Vampires Everywhere! and Julien-K. There were even plans to record the show “for a potential live album”, but due to the wildfires currently raging in Los Angeles, the event had to be cancelled at short notice:
“We sadly have to inform you that, due to the fire in Hollywood and for everyone’s safety, tonight’s gig at the Whisky A Go Go has been cancelled. We hope to come back soon again! Stay safe.”
– Priest
Both Priest and Vampires Everywhere! frontman Michael Vampire confirmed just hours before the cancellation that the event would go ahead as planned, so the cancellation apparently came as just as much of a surprise to the bands as it did to the fans, with Michael Vampire stating that “the show is still on tonight” and that “we have gotten word from the famous @thewhiskyagogo that Sunset Strip is not directly affected by the fires”.
The tour is supposed to continue in Sacramento tonight. So far, the wildfires have claimed 5 lives and burned down 2,000 structures, with at least 130,000 residents being under evacuation orders.
