Nynäskalaset 2026 festival, featuring The Hellacopters and others, cancelled at short notice

On Friday (7 August 2026), the two-day open-air festival Nynäskalaset 2026 was supposed to kick off in the Swedish coastal town of Nynäshamn, with headliners including The Hellacopters and The Soundtrack Of Our Lives. However, the entire festival has now been cancelled at short notice by its organiser, Haj-Faj AB:

“The Board of Directors of Haj-Faj AB has, following a comprehensive review of the company’s financial situation and after seeking legal advice, made the very difficult decision to cancel Nynäskalaset. The decision has not been an easy one, as we are currently in the process of preparing the festival grounds and have had several lengthy discussions with decision-makers in an effort to find funding and solutions. We have worked extremely hard and done everything in our power to reduce costs, explored every possible opportunity to save money, maintained ongoing dialogue with suppliers, and carried out continuous financial analyses – all with the aim of making the festival possible. After an overall assessment, the Board has concluded that it is not possible to proceed with Nynäskalaset. Despite having sold tickets and having already paid for large parts of the production, the law does not allow us to continue. This is because the financial conditions required for the festival to go ahead are not in place. This is the most difficult decision we have ever had to make. After many sleepless nights, we have no choice but to cancel the festival and file for bankruptcy for Haj-Faj AB. We are deeply sorry for the disappointment this will cause our visitors, artists, partners, sponsors, suppliers and everyone else who has contributed to the festival. The Hellacopters, one of Friday’s headliners, comment on the cancellation as follows:

“We’ve just got the sad news that the Nynäskalaset festival, scheduled for this Friday, has been cancelled. This is all we know at the moment. We were really looking forward to play and this is of course completely out of our hands. Sincerely, The Hellacopters”

For Cyhra, who were also scheduled to perform on Friday, the cancellation of Nynäskalaset has consequences for another show this weekend:

“We didn’t want to point fingers the other day, but we feel it’s only fair to explain why we’ve had to cancel our shows this weekend. Unfortunately, Nynäskalaset has declared bankruptcy, which means the festival will no longer take place. As a result, our show at PLATENS NordicLive also had to be canceled. It was an unfortunate case of being caught in the fallout, as we simply couldn’t cover our production costs with only one remaining show. We’re incredibly disappointed, especially for everyone who was planning to come out and see us. We appreciate your understanding and support, and we hope to see you all again soon under better circumstances. We are looking at a new date for the show in Linköping and will get back with more information asap.”

Meanwhile, another Friday act, the melodic death metal band Carnage Cafe, is inviting everyone to a smaller show at the pub “Eight Friends Inn”:

“ATTENTION! Since Nynäskalaset is officially cancelled, we’re hosting a smaller show at Eight Friends Inn THIS FRIDAY 20.00 instead! We won’t let our metal family down, see you there! Bringing the carnage as usual with with the songs planned for the original show along with some other stuff.”

“Eight Friends Inn” is located at Järnvägsgatan 1 in Nynäshamn. It is not known whether there is an entrance fee for the event.
