Finnish rock force Moon Shot have released their highly anticipated third studio album “Thunderlust”, out now via Reaper Entertainment. To celebrate the release, the band have also unveiled the official music video for the album’s emotional focus track “Hey Boy”.
With “Thunderlust”, Moon Shot open a new chapter in their story. Following the previously released singles “No Walls”, “Hammer Of Changes” and “False Heroes”, the eleven-track album sees the band pushing their unmistakable sound forward while staying true to the instinct, honesty and energy at the heart of Moon Shot.
For guitarist, main songwriter and producer Jussi, following that instinct was essential throughout the creation of the album:
“I’ve always found it counterproductive to follow the latest trends of other bands’ sounds. That would be a terrible disservice to the original MOON SHOT sound. For me as the songwriter and producer of Thunderlust, it comes down to following my own inspiration and gut and making the kind of music and sound that excites me. Thunderlust is an avid celebration of all this.”
Lyrically, “Thunderlust” explores the human desire for change, renewal and new challenges—even when everything in life appears to be perfectly in place.
Frontman and lyricist Ville explains:
“Thunderlust is an album about our hardwired desire for renewal. Sometimes this ‘thunderlusty’ feeling destroys the person experiencing it and those close to them, while other times it leads to beautiful and unique things. There is a lot on the line, and the stakes are high. That is why the Thunderlust album simply had to be made.”
Throughout the album, Ville chose to approach his lyrics with particular openness and sincerity. Rather than hiding behind familiar rock clichés, “Thunderlust” deals with personal experiences, human connection and subjects that genuinely matter to the band.
Nowhere is that more evident than on the album’s focus track “Hey Boy”.
The song addresses involuntary childlessness and the emotional pain experienced by people who deeply wish to become parents but, for one reason or another, cannot. It is dedicated to the children who never came into existence, despite the love that was already waiting for them.
Ville says:
“Who said that in 2026 rock music has to be the repetition of the same old clichés and worn-out ideas? Why can’t a rock song deal with things that actually matter? ‘Hey Boy’ is a song about childlessness and the distress that carves away inside many who wish to become parents but for one reason or another can’t. ‘Hey Boy’ is dedicated to those little people who do not exist, but for whom an ocean of love has been reserved.”
Jussi adds:
“Hey Boy is a beautiful world-class rock song with a chorus to die for. The topic of the unborn son you wanted but you never had touches my soul. I think everyone should hear this.”
Released alongside the album, the official “Hey Boy” music video was filmed at an old, decommissioned bicycle stadium in Helsinki.
Once again directed by Sami Joensuu, the video continues the distinctive visual world the band have developed together with Joensuu and his crew. Its vibrant colours and striking aesthetics deliberately contrast with and complement the deeply emotional subject of the song, while expanding the visual universe already established through the videos for “No Walls” and “Hammer Of Changes”.
For Moon Shot, music videos have become much more than an accompaniment to their songs: they are an opportunity to invite listeners deeper into the band’s world and give every song an additional visual dimension.
