Metalcore is a big part of today’s metal scene. And it always was. It’s difficult to mention the “Big 4” of this genre as metalcore had different eras and different popular bands all over the eras. Some band’s pathed the way for some other great metalcore artists. We had a look at Metalcore Reddit thread for you.

The band more mentioned, who should be in the “Big 4” of metalcore bands, would be Killswitch Engage. Being less popular now, but definitely more in the 2000s, they pathed the way for modern metalcore. One Reddit User said: “Can’t go wrong with Howard Jones Killswitch. His voice and lyrics were just so damn powerful.”

The second band which was mentioned a lot is As I Lay Dying. Having had a great start in the metal scene and their contribution to metalcore can still be felt now, as even after so many years and the singer being jailed because of attempting to hire a hitman to murder his ex wife, people still listen to them and even mentioned them in this list.

The third most mentioned band was Bullet for My Valentine. Welsh metalcore band BFMV already formed in 1998, but is still performing at big festivals and have metalheads all over the world still love them. A Reddit User commented: “Bullet has been getting more love from this sub lately and I’m loving it.”

For the fourth out of the “Big 4” metalcore bands, Reddit Users where usure who to define. A lot of other band’s where mentioned. From Parkway Drive to August Burns Red, All That Remains, Architects, Every Time I Die and Bring Me The Horizon.

If you ask Chaoszine about metalcore’s “Big 4”, we believe all of these bands have their right to be mentioned. It really just depends on which era you look at, when thinking of metalcore bands.
