Marilyn Manson share rare personal update on his sobriety journey during a show

During the opening performance of his current tour, Marilyn Manson had to pause to talk to the audience about his sobriety—a time he referred to as a “confession”, as per Loudwire. On April 22, Manson began his One Assassination Under God tour in 2026 at the Yaamava’ Resort & Casino in Highland, California. During the first of two performances in Highland, Manson had a message for the audience about midway through his act.

I have a confession to make. Some of you may have known this, but I did in fact like the drugs [referencing his track “I Don’t Like the Drugs (But the Drugs Like Me).”]

Manson went on to discuss cocaine and how drugs “loved” him so much that they wanted to “marry” him. Then, though, his tone shifted a little.

One day, I had to teach drugs a lesson. I said, ‘Hey, drugs, you want to go for a romantic ride into the desert with me?’

In the middle of nowhere, Manson says, he got out of the car and dug a hole in the earth in the shape of a heart.

And I looked at the drugs, and they looked at me, and they said, ‘I’m going to love you forever.’ And I looked at them and shoved them into the fucking hole and buried them and I came home alone.

He then declared to the audience that he was a “drug addict” before starting “The Dope Show.“
