Kentucky metalcore outfit Knocked Loose have donated $8,000 to Jamie Ulshoffer, the woman left paralyzed following a tragic incident during their performance at the Louder Than Life festival in Louisville, Kentucky, as per theprp. According to local media reports, Ulshoffer was watching the band’s set near the back corner of the tented stage when another attendee fell from a nearby tree and landed directly on top of her. She was rushed to a local hospital, where doctors confirmed her spinal cord was severed, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. Her friends and family launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover her ongoing medical expenses and future care, to which the band contributed directly.
First held as a two-day event at Champions Park in 2014, the Louder Than Life festival quickly expanded its footprint, even incorporating live WWE NXT wrestling matches into its 2015 edition. After severe weather and deteriorating park conditions forced the cancellation of the 2018 event, organizers moved the festival to the Highland Festival Grounds at the Kentucky Exposition Center in 2019, simultaneously expanding it to three days to mitigate flooding risks. Following a forced cancellation in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Louder Than Life expanded once again in 2021 to a four-day format.
The festival celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2024 with a record lineup of over 140 bands, headlined by the reunion of Slayer following a five-year retirement. However, adverse weather from Hurricane Helene forced the cancellation of Friday’s performances, preventing Slayer from taking the stage. Organizer Danny Wimmer Presents subsequently offered Friday and four-day pass holders an exclusive invitation to see Slayer at the Aftershock Festival on October 10, later confirming Slayer‘s return for 2025 alongside options for partial refunds or credits toward 2025 passes.
In addition to its musical lineup, the festival has built a reputation for offering a comprehensive cultural experience, featuring selection of whiskeys, craft beers, gourmet food offerings, and various interactive exhibits. Beyond its diverse attractions, the annual event serves as a major driver for local tourism, generating a significant economic impact for the city of Louisville.
