Australian psychedelic rock supergroup King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have just released a new single “Phantom Island,” in which they are accompanied by a full 28-piece classical music orchestra.
The song is a foretaste of the band’s forthcoming album, which will also feature an orchestral arrangement. Although details of the album are still sketchy, the band has confirmed that it will consist of ten tracks originally intended for their latest album “Flight b741”. However, it was decided not to include these tracks on the album and they have now been given an orchestral update.
At the same time, the band has announced that they will be going on tour in the US next summer with a rotating orchestra. Sarah Hicks will be conducting the shows.
This new direction is yet another indication of the band’s unprecedented productivity and ability to innovate. The band is best known for releasing five albums between 2017 and 2022.
Fan reactions to the new track and the upcoming album have been enthusiastic. The new song and upcoming tour show that the band will continue to push their musical boundaries and surprise their audience.
