The details for King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard‘s upcoming 28th studio album, “Alien Metal,” have been revealed by the Australian psych rock group, as per theprp. The ever-prolific group hasn’t been producing as much lately, but this new project doesn’t compromise on ambition. This time, the band is delving deeply into rave and EDM music, which they have been playing with for a while through their “rave shows.” This new musical journey begins with the song “Level 5,” which has a music video directed by Hayden Somerville. This new CD, which the band plans to release later this summer through p(doom) Records, is built around a modular synthesiser.
Regarding the experience of using a Eurorack synthesiser on this record, Stu Mackenzie says this.
It completely rewired my brain. I was like, ‘I’m going to forget everything I know about music and relearn it all from scratch.’
Many experiments were unsuccessful as a result of the approach.
We’ve never scrapped so much material as we have for this album. Entire albums, entire universes that were formulated, created, recorded, deleted and started again.
Joey Walker, a multi-instrumentalist and the band’s internal advocate of EDM and techno elements, continued.
‘Alien Metal‘ goes really hard, but it also goes to really interesting places. And it feels unique – it feels like us, still.
