Jeffrey Nothing sues Steve “Skinny” Felton over a dispute about Mushroomhead royalties

Current and former members of the masked nü-metal/alternative metal group Mushroomhead are embroiled in a legal conflict. Singer Jeffrey “Nothing” Hatrix, who was a member of the band from 1993 until 2018, has filed a lawsuit against Steve “Skinny” Felton, another co-founder, drummer, and other band members, as well as the band’s affiliated company, Filthy Hands Company. Hatrix claims that for several years, Felton and consequently the aforementioned business have been underpaying him in royalties. The lawsuit does not mention the group specifically.

The lawsuit was filed earlier this week in a federal court in Cleveland, according to Cleveland.com. According to the lawsuit, Hatrix is credited with writing 148 of the band’s songs. Apart from asserting that he hasn’t been paid royalties in some years, he also says Felton has been using certain dishonest methods. Felton is accused of paying himself off twice using two different identities, among other things. The lawsuit further claimed that Felton had continued to siphon off funds while posing as a writer and publicist who was supposedly employed by an “unknown.” Hatrix appears to be requesting access to the band’s accounting information in addition to at least $3.5 million through the lawsuit.

The argument has taken a further turn as Hatrix filed a trademark application for the group’s long-used double X emblem on August 1st of this year, seemingly letting their registration lapse. He hasn’t received it yet, as of yet. The information becomes available when Mushroomhead is on tour in support of their recently released album, “Call The Devil,” which was published last week.
