“I didn’t want to be Frank Mullen I wanted to be Ricky” – Suffocation’s Ricky Myers reveals his story as a metal vocalist

Suffocation, a pioneer of American death metal, underwent major changes in 2019 when the band’s legendary vocalist Frank Mullen decided to step aside, and Ricky Myers, previously drummer of Disgorge, was chosen as the band’s new vocalist.

Before joining Suffocation, Myers was relatively unknown to a larger audience, but his impressive performance on the 2023 album “Hymns From The Apocrypha” received praise even from the most dedicated fans of the genre.

Suffocation performed at the Mystic Festival in Gdansk, Poland, on Wednesday, June 5th, and Chaoszine, the sister magazine of Kaaoszine, sat down with Myers to discuss his career as a death metal vocalist, from his early days to joining Suffocation and the band’s latest album, “Hymns From The Apocrypha.” You can watch the latest episode of the video series focusing on metal vocalists here:
