Fresh off their first European tour, Hinayana’s Casey Hurd (vocals, guitars) and Matt Bius (bass) were eager to share the details of their jaunt to Chaoszine’s Samantha Chilli. A rigorous schedule flung them across 18 European cities in 18 days, alongside Moonspell, Borknagar, Insomnium, and Wolfheart; in a pinch, they even borrowed the drumming services of Wolfheart’s Joonas Kauppinen.
Originally Hurd’s brainchild, both Hinayana’s lineup, also including Erik Shtaygrud (guitars), Michael Anstice (keyboards), and Daniel Vieira (drums), as well as the depth of their death/doom sound, have swelled into maturity. Hurd and Bius also discussed the meaning of the band’s name–which they explain more often than they expected to–as well as the sound influences and the dark, personal lyrical themes that will appear on their forthcoming full-length album, which is yet to be formally announced.
