Denver thrash metal outfit Havok have made a surprise announcement, dropping their new EP “New Eyes” to coincide with their upcoming tour alongside Exodus, Candy, and Dead Heat. The four-track release is led by the single “Death Is An Illusion,” accompanied by a music video directed by K. Hunter Lamar. The new EP features two original tracks and two covers:
Speaking about the lead single, Havok explained that “Death Is An Illusion” combines thrash metal with D-Beat hardcore, exploring themes of energy conservation and eternal existence through scientific principles and memory.
Vocalist/guitarist David Sanchez emphasized the significance of this release as Havok’s first independent venture since their early days. He highlighted the EP’s diverse approach, from the aggressive opener to the harmony-rich title track, which explores changing perspectives over time.
Regarding the cover choices, Sanchez revealed their unexpected selection of CCR’s “Commotion,” which they “metalized” while maintaining its core essence. The Metallica cover choice, “Eye Of The Beholder,” was selected for its heaviness and thematic alignment with Havok’s past lyrical content.
