American progressive rock act Elder have released a new 18-minute EP titled “Liminality / Dream State Return”, available now both digitally and on vinyl through Stickman Records. The track is split into two parts yet designed to be one continuous piece.

Work on the EP began in winter 2024 in Berlin during a reprieve after a busy touring period. The material comes from fragments written between the albums “Omens” (2020) and “Innate Passage” (2022) that didn’t quite fit either project. The band ventured into the studio intending to prep for their next full album, but the old pieces evolved during a spontaneous jam session and gave rise to this new work.

The songs “Liminality” (about 13 minutes) and “Dream State Return” (just under 6 minutes) flow into each other, combining heavy, psychedelic, and progressive elements. The EP explores ideas of transition and in-between spaces, with lyrics written largely in stream of consciousness.

On the physical side, the EP is issued as a 12-inch single-sided 180g translucent “coke bottle green” vinyl, with an etching on the B-side and accompanied by a download card. Artwork comes from Adam Hill, and copies are distributed via Stickman Records, with limited stock in the US through Armageddon Shop and Echodelick Records.

A video or mini-film directed by Malachi Cull accompanies the release. The band are also preparing for their next full album, expected in early 2026.
