Brazilian death metal band Crypta presents their new lineup with “A Portrait of Decay,” the first new music since their 2023 album “Shades of Sorrow.” The track introduces guitarist Victoria Villarreal as the group’s newest permanent member.
Villarreal replaces Jéssica di Falchi and initially joined as a touring musician in 2025 before becoming a full member in 2026. She now completes the lineup alongside vocalist and bassist Fernanda Lira, drummer Luana Dametto, and guitarist Tainá Bergamaschi. Together, the four recorded the song in June 2026 at Project Zero Studio in Belgium. Yarne Heylen handled production, mixing, and mastering, while Marcos Miller created the artwork.
The band shared their thoughts on the release: “‘A Portrait of Decay’ is the first song off this new chapter of the band that we’d like to share with you, our fans. We decided to release it before the album campaign as a way to present the new line-up to you and show you what kind of sound you can expect in this new era of the band.”
They added: “We chose this song because we think it summarizes the whole atmosphere of how our new music will sound. It’s an intense, atmospheric, melancholic, but still epic and aggressive death metal track that talks about dissociation as means to enduring pain and suffering.”
“A Portrait of Decay” arrives ahead of a North American tour that kicks off in early October. Crypta will join Arch Enemy, The Black Dahlia Murder, Septicflesh, and Thrown Into Exile on the road. “Shades of Sorrow” came out through Napalm Records in 2023, following the band’s debut “Echoes of the Soul” from 2021.
