Mike Peters of The Alarm revealed in April that he had relapsed with cancer. The frontman’s chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) was determined to be Richter’s syndrome, which caused his condition to become more aggressive and malignant. The frontman was first diagnosed with leukemia 29 years ago and has battled the illness in the public eye. The illness forced The Alarm to postpone their planned US tour, and doctors warned that Peters’s condition would kill him in a matter of months if left untreated. Peters was treated at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester, where he began a course of chemotherapy and the trial drug acalabrutinib. Peters now claims to have completely remissioned. It is momentous news, especially when considering that I was only diagnosed with the aggressive Richter’s Syndrome last April and told that without treatment, I could expect to live for just 2-12 months.
Peters is currently looking for a compatible blood stem cell donor so he can receive a stem cell transplant, a technique only available to patients with really serious illnesses.
