The follow-up to the life-affirming “Almost Ready,” “Careful (For Dee)” perfectly embodies the magic formula of wit, warmth, and unforgettable wordplay that’s always defined Barenaked Ladies (vocalist/guitarist Ed Robertson, keyboardist Kevin Hearn, bassist Jim Creeggan, and drummer Tyler Stewart). Written by Robertson, the stripped-back and rootsy track unfolds with all the easy candor of a late-night heart-to-heart as he opens up about the hidden costs of doing what you love and the quiet reward of choosing what truly matters.
Produced by Barenaked Ladies, “Careful (For Dee)” matches its confessional intimacy with a brightly textured sound built on Robertson’s cascading acoustic-guitar work, Hearn’s lush mandolin runs, Creeggan’s soulful double-bass lines, and Stewart’s gently thumping percussion. With the entire band joining in on the track’s tender harmonies, the song centers on a deceptively breezy chorus that begins in wistful introspection (“When I was younger, I was bold / But if you’re careful, you get old”) before shifting into a bit of road-tested wisdom (“So, if it’s slippery, slow it down / And if it’s too high, go around / Before you shut it down, put out your fire / So it won’t burn the ones you love”). In its nuanced meditation on the relentless passing of time, “Careful (For Dee)” once again reveals Barenaked Ladies’ singular gift for bringing both levity and depth to life’s biggest questions.

Released last month, “Almost Ready” marked the band’s first new music in three years and first song drop since “In Flight – Carry On“— a 2025 EP featuring acoustic renditions of seven standouts from their acclaimed album “In Flight.”
After taking over Nashville’s Ascend Amphitheater on 7/31, The Drops of Jupiter: 25 Years in The Atmosphere Tour will soon move on to Toronto, where Barenaked Ladies will co-headline the RBC Amphitheatre with Train on Tuesday (8/4). Before closing out on August 30 in Auburn, WA, the tour will stop at iconic venues like Colorado’s historic Red Rocks Amphitheatre (August 17), the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles (August 24), and more.
Barenaked Ladies will also embark on a UK headline tour in December. With stops in celebrated venues like London’s Eventim Apollo (December 5) and Manchester’s Albert Hall (December 9), Yuletide Ride will feature a number of covers of holiday classics, including selections from their 2004 Christmas album “Barenaked for the Holidays”. Featuring Boothby Graffoe as support, the eight-date outing will mark Barenaked Ladies’ first UK run since 2023.
