Disturbed recently added another song to the Billions Club Spotify playlist, as per theprp. The 8x platinum second single off their 5x platinum 2000 debut album, “The Sickness,” “Down With The Sickness,” recently became a member of that exclusive group. One billion plays of a song on the well-known digital service provider are required to be added to that playlist. The band’s 2015 rendition of Simon & Garfunkel‘s “The Sound Of Silence” is followed by “Down With The Sickness,” which was added to the playlist this morning. Three days ago, that version appeared on that exact playlist. With 9x multi-platinum status, the cover continues to garner plays for the band and is poised to earn them their first diamond certification in the United States.

Guitarist Dan Donegan, drummer Mike Wengren, and bassist Steve “Fuzz” Kmak played with singer Erich Awalt in a band named Brawl prior to David Draiman joining Disturbed. However, Donegan stated in the band’s DVD, “Decade of Disturbed”, that the original name was going to be Crawl; they changed it to Brawl since another band was already using that name. Shortly after a demo tape was recorded, Awalt departed the band; the other three members posted an advertisement for a vocalist. They placed an advertisement in the “Illinois Entertainer,” a local music journal in Chicago, Illinois. Draiman attended twenty more auditions that month before responding to the posting.

After Draiman joined the group in 1996, they changed their name to Disturbed. Disturbed recorded two three-track demo tapes after changing their name. The first had demos for “The Game,” “Down with the Sickness,” and “Meaning of Life,” while the second included recordings for “Want,” “Stupify,” and “Droppin’ Plates.” The Guy, the band’s recently developed mascot, was featured in the artwork. In August 1999, the band opened for Ministry at Chicago’s Riviera Theatre after eventually signing with Giant Records. The band became well-known after releasing their debut album, “The Sickness”, in 2000. Since its debut, the album has sold over 4 million copies in the US and peaked at number 20 on the Billboard 200.
