A Faroese/Icelandic night: Eivør, Ásgeir and Elinborg in Helsinki

Nordic musicians from Iceland and Faroe islands know one recipe to success: to tour like hell. Eivør, for instance, visits Helsinki for second time this year. Her first appearance was before Heilung’s gig in March, and this time is a headline tour, where she brought two more musicians in a tow. They performed in Helsinki’s House of Culture on October 21.

Elinborg

“She is like Eivør 20 years younger” — shares his opinion a colleague. Indeed, Elinborg Palsdottir is the younger sister of Eivør. Her next album “Í Ævir” is released on October 31, 2025. Its atmosperic ambiance reminds of Eivør’s material as well. It feels odd that her name appeared in such a small font on the posters — her sound is confident, mature, and clearly stands shoulder to shoulder with the other acts.

Ásgeir

Ásgeir, an Icelandic singer-songwriter, unites folk tenderness with modern atmospheric production. Since his breakout In the Silence, he has captivated audiences around the world. His music reflects both the vast Icelandic landscape and the quiet introspection of everyday life. His music reminds me of Sigur Ros.

Eivør

Eivør’s music needs no introduction — she has been a cornerstone of the Nordic folk scene for years and even earned her place as the composer for Netflix’s The Last Kingdom. The only thing to grumble about might be the lighting: having seen her three times this year, each show was shrouded in dense smoke and dim, muddy hues. Still, her powerful voice cut through the haze — and a song was shared with Elinborg, showing some sisters’ bonding on stage.
