It seems that the type of music you listen to while driving may have an impact on your driving skills. A recent study found that listening to heavy metal can make you a worse driver overall. Extreme Terrain Off-Road Outfitters, a reseller of Jeep accessories and parts, is the source of the study. They conducted a survey with 1,000 drivers in the United States and produced some intriguing findings. They identified the genres that were most likely to be associated with specific unsafe driving practices, and they discovered that listening to metal while driving increased the likelihood of running red lights, honking at other drivers, getting a DUI, and being involved in a serious collision. All of this is true even though metal is the second least popular genre to listen to, with classical music ranking lowest. Other noteworthy findings included the following: EDM listeners are more likely to drive more than 15 miles over the speed limit, podcast listeners are more likely to text while driving and get into a collision, and hip-hop listeners are more likely to tailgate other cars. The most amusing statistic was probably that 23% of Joe Rogan’s podcast listeners had road rage, which makes sense given that they’re listening to a stupid, overgrown 12-year-old who believes transgender activists are igniting forest fires to regulate the weather. You can read the study here, but I’m willing to bet my Tom Morello autograph that no one is going to stop listening to the best genre in the world, am I wrong?
