During a Tenacious D performance in 2024, Kyle Gass joked on stage about the attempt on the life of then-candidate Donald Trump, as per MetalSucks. It made everyone chuckle, but as is often the case these days, people got all worked up over their costs, which caused things to go south. You understand what that meant—the D was done—because Jack Black is now a well-known Hollywood actor. They took a break. Gass now claims that fans may relax since the D will return in an interview with Rolling Stone. The fact that he “hashed it out” with his longtime friend and some distance from the incident were all that was required.
It was terrible judgment, obviously. I’ve felt terrible ever since, because it’s such a responsibility to not screw up like that.
I wouldn’t wish it on anybody. It’s one of those things, once it was picked up, it just got worse and worse. It was a Defcon 2 for sure in the camp. And I did it. It was hard to take responsibility for it, but it was my fuck-up. When you’re in it, it’s hard to even think straight. It’s just this thing flooding and coming at you.
“We had to take the break. And I got it. Jack has this magnificent career; I can’t even count the franchises now. So as hard as it was, I just had to take the long ride home.
After all of this, Gass said that his relationship with Black was “like a marriage.” He believes that he and his long-term spouse “go through these ups and downs, and [you] try to understand your partner.”
After clearing the air, Gass claims that Tenacious D will “come back” at some point in the future and that it will be “bigger than Oasis!“
We will serve no D-wine before it’s D-time – but we will be back. We will return.
